My family and I recently visited a church to hear Jesse Duplantis preach. It was nice to see him in person. We were not disappointed. His messages are easy to understand, even for my two daughters who are thirteen and ten. I get a lot out of his preaching and teaching, so I try to catch him on t.v. whenever I can.

Jesse is truly blessed by God in so many things. Among them, we all know, is his huge comedy streak. Not only does he get his message across clearly, he has us all laughing hard with some of his personal stories and testimonies. Jesse definitely keeps things interesting and entertaining. Some of us are wiping tears of laughter from our eyes, or making a mad dash to the bathroom.

There is this story Jesse shared with us I found interesting. A ninety four year old woman approached Jesse after the sermon he preached at her church. She shared with him her age and how she watched all her family members die. She has friends, but still feels alone and wants to go home to be with Jesus. She explains to him how healthy she feels for her age and doesn’t see herself dying any time soon since she isn’t sick.

Every Wednesday she fixes a big breakfast for her pastor and his family. A housekeeper comes to her house a couple times a week to help her, but besides that, she gets along on her own very well. Jesse then starts to explain to the woman that she doesn’t have to wait for an “appointed time” to go to heaven to be with the Lord. She can go home any time she wants. He gave her scripture (I can’t remember what it was) to back up his words.

This pleased the lady very much. She told Jesse that’s what she was going to do. She decided that the following Wednesday was going to be the last time she will fix breakfast for her pastor and his family. The next day at eleven in the morning she was going to go home to Jesus.

That Wednesday morning her housekeeper came over to help her clean her house. It was 10:45 and the older woman explained to her housekeeper what was about to take place. She told her she asked God to take her to heaven at exactly eleven a.m. and she wanted one more hug from her before she goes. She also told her housekeeper she was leaving everything to her.

After the woman finished talking, she walked over to her chair and sat down. By this time, her housekeeper thought  the older lady finally lost it. She can’t possibly be serious. That is until fifteen minutes later when she witnessed the woman take her last breathe at eleven o clock on the dot.

I know that words are very strong and powerful. According to the Bible you can speak blessings or cursings ; life or death. But wow! To actually be able to choose the day and time you want to go to heaven is absolutely amazing to me. That’s some serious faith and believing what God says in the Bible.

Jesse also pointed out that God has the power to take us whenever He wants to, but not the authority. He leaves that up to us. We can prolong our lives or shorten it by the choices we make. It’s one of many ways God shows us His love. Rather than being a controlling God, He lets us choose. He gives every one of us a pre-ordained path even before we are born.

It’s up to us to walk in God’s ways and follow the path He has for us. We are already born with the gifts and talents we need to do God’s work; whatever that may be. Whatever our passion is in life, if we would start using it for the good of God, He’ll bless us in so many ways.

When I was twelve years old one of my aunts asked me if I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up.I told her I was going to take care of old people.I didn’t have to think about it, I just knew that’s what I wanted to do.Today I work in a nursing home as a nurse aide. I absolutely love my job; taking care of the elderly. I’m thinking this is my passion.

I enjoy giving them my time, compassion and patience. I let them know I care about them through my actions. Lots of people have told me I should go to school to become a nurse. I don’t want to.Unfortunately, I see every day how nurses aren’t able to spare much time to be with the residents because of all the medicine that’s needed to be given. I”m able to spend more time with them as an aide.

I truly believe one of the reasons God has blessed me with such a beautiful family is because I chose to be a nurse aide. I’m not trying to brag at all, but I know that I’m a very caring and giving person. By giving of myself to people who need it, God’s giving back to me through a husband that I love and adore with all my heart and two beautiful daughters who mean the world to me.

Continue reading »]]> Throughout my life I’ve seen and heard about couples who were brought together by God. Many of them would say things like,”God told me I was going to marry that person before I even knew him/her.”

It happened to my sister when she was seventeen. We were playing volleyball during youth night at our church. A guy who just started coming to our church accidently caused the ball to hit her on the head. He came rushing over to apologize.

I was told later that in that instant they both knew they were going to marry each other some day and that God had brought them together. My sister’s first impression of this guy wasn’t a very nice one, though. She thought he was acting like a sissy over her getting hit on the head. She did get over it and is now happily married to him and they have five kids.

I wanted something like that to happen to me, too. Unfortunately, I didn’t wait on God to send someone to me. I was in a relationship that lasted three years. God blessed us with a daughter during that time. Two and a half months after she was born, her dad and I decided it was best for everyone that we split up.

When my daughter was nineteen months old, I was introduced to a man through her dad’s mom. She told me she knows this guy who is absolutely perfect for me; someone I deserve to be with. If I would go out with him just one time (do it for her) to see if I like him, it would make her very happy.

I get a call from this guy one night and we began to have what I call a “phone relationship”. Even though I was interested in him, I didn’t want to be in a relationship at the time. I was happy with it being just me and my daughter. The guy was very persistant (thank God) and we carried on this “phone relationship” for two months before we went out on our first date.

That night; after our first date,I was in bed almost asleep when God said,”He’s the one”. I argued with Him. I told Him I didn’t want a guy in my life right now. I was happy with it being just me and my little girl. Again God said,”He’s the one”. He then reminded me that this is how I’ve always wanted things to work out and that He’s giving me what I asked for. That shut me up really fast. I am so happy and thankful I stopped arguing with God that night. He could have changed His mind and decided not to let us be together for being ungrateful.

I am now married to this guy and I couldn’t be happier. Today we have two beautiful daughters ages thirteen and ten. My husband and I have such a crazy, goofy, wonderful relationship with each other. We like acting goofy, but not to the point where we’re obnoxious or embarrassing. Our girls do like to roll their eyes at us a lot. They don’t fool us, though. They have fun acting goofy right along with us grown ups.

Even though we don’t always see eye to eye on some things, my husband and I have never had a fight. When I say fight; to me it’s arguing with a lot of yelling and bitterness. We do argue, but not very often and we’ll get over it or through it right away. Neither one of us holds a grudge and that helps. We are always telling each other how blessed we are from God to have such a wonderful little family.

I never imagined I would be as happy as I am today. God has truly blessed me with a wonderful husband who I love and adore with all my heart and two beautiful and amazing girls who I wouldn’t trade; not for all the tea in China. I love talking about God and my family while I’m at work. I work as a nursing assistant at a nursing home. I can get my residents to smile or laugh when I tell them stories of my family. Some of the goofy things my husband and girls say and do would make a comedian proud,

Psalm37:4 says,”Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desire”. That’s exactly what God has done for me. My heart’s desire was to some day have a husband who loves me with a couple of children.

I get a kick out of watching how people react when I say,”Oh Jesus” or “Thank you Jesus”. Many of them stop what they’re doing at the time and look at me. It impresses me and tickles me at the same time. It also shows me that the name of Jesus is most definitely  one mighty powerful name. The name above all names.

When I call on His name, I may not hear from Him right then and there, but I know He’s listening. We know that God answers in His own time. But it sure is nice when that timing coincides with our own .

I’ll never forget the time God was there for me right away. I was living with my parents in Arizona. My shift just ended at the nursing home I worked at. My dad was suppose to pick me up from work that morning, but he overslept. Instead of bothering him with a phone call, I decided to walk the two miles home. I enjoy walking, so it was no big deal. We lived close to the Mexican border, so my imagination started to get carried away. I got scared.

I asked Jesus to please be with me and take my fear away. As soon as I finished my desperate little prayer, I sensed God’s presence all around me. it was so strong, calming and soothing. I felt His love like never before. It was like God was hugging me. I walked all the way home with those feelings. It was absolutely amazing and wonderful.

I grew up in a Christian home, but it took me a while to realize that prayer is more than asking God for things. It’s having a personal conversation with Him and taking the time to hear what He has to say. Sometimes He doesn’t say anything right away, but He’s still there. It’s like the oxygen we breathe. We can’t see it, yet we know it’s there.

When we ask something of God, whatever the answer is, He always has our best interest in mind. God enjoys answering our prayers. But He wants us to live for Him, also. Sometimes the answer will be “no” or “wait”. When we pray, we are suppose to include it with “your will be done God”. When we talk with God,we aren’t suppose to demand what we want; rather we talk about what God wants for us. If we align our prayers to His will, then we definitely have His attention. You will most certainly get an answer.

1st John 5:14,15 says,”And we are confident that He hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases Him. And since we know He hears us when we make our requests, we also know that He will give us what we ask for”.

We are to always want God’s will to be done, not our will. People who are seeking God’s will are more than likely too far away from Him. They don’t know what it is. That’s when we need to study the Bible more. God’s will for us first of all is to get to know Him. The beautiful thing about this is; that’s when God’s will will find you. By seeking God, He sees where your heart and mind lies and He can’t wait for you to get to know Him better

Continue reading »]]> 1 Peter 5:8 says,”Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about seeking whom he may devour.” That scripture became more than just words to me 18 years ago. I was going through a “Spiritual low”; questioning God’s  love. I wasn’t feeling Him at the time. Instead of believing in His Word, I was leaning heavily on my emotions.

I thought if I can’t feel Him, then He must not be there. That is so not true. God’s always there no matter what. He carries us when we don’t even realize it. It was a Saturday night when I almost called it quits with God. I just couldn’t sense that He was with me. I felt nothing. I asked God,”Where are you?” I then opened up my Bible and started flipping through the pages. Every single time I stopped at a verse (no joke) the words were specifically talking about God’s love.

I sat the Bible down and went to bed. I closed my eyes long enough to ask God to please let me feel His love. When I opened my eyes, there in the middle of the room stood a lion. I instantly knew it was the devil. His eyes were so  cold and I felt such evil coming from him. He was actually sitting there waiting for me to give up on God. The scripture 1Peter 5:8 popped into my head. I looked at the devil and said,”I don’t think so”. He disappeared. His hopes backfired on him. Instead of being petrified and laying my soul wide open for him, I ran to Jesus.

The next morning at church during testimony service my pastor asked me to stand up and testify. I stood up and began to cry. Instead of testifying, I asked to be prayed for. Thank God He refreshed me that morning. Because I was going by emotions alone, I tripped and fell. I’m so thankful I serve a God who is so full of mercy and has so much love for us; that He would reach down and pick me up again and again. Even though we disappoint Him, sadden Him and frustrate Him (I’m sure), God is still standing there with His arms outstretched waiting and yearning for us to come back to Him.
